In 2014, Australia played host to the World Congress on Railway Research (WCRR). This May, the Australasian Centre for Rail Innovation (ACRI) will represent Australia as a Bronze sponsor at the WCRR in Milan, Italy.

The congress is often referred to as the “Olympic Games” of Rail Research and will feature over 200 speakers and 1000 representatives from over 30 nations. It provides an opportunity to share the latest scientific, technological and engineering research in the field of rail operations and services.

The theme of the 2016 Congress is Railway Research and Innovation from Today Towards 2050.

ACRI’s Principal Research Fellow, Dr Anjum Naweed will present the paper ‘Exploring Gaps in the Whole-Systems Approach for Managing Operations and Safety Risk at a Fully Automatic Rail Level Crossing’ and ACRI Research Fellow Dr Grégoire Larue will present papers on the topics ‘Evaluation of a New Level Crossing Warning Concept to Improve Safety of Level Crossings in Remote Locations’, and ‘Reducing the Cost of Level Crossing Warning Systems – Trials, Results, Lessons Learned and Adoption of New Technologies‘.

As the world’s foremost international forum for the promotion, development and exchange of the latest innovations in the global rail industry, the WCRR is an ideal event for ACRI to boost its international profile, and engage further with stakeholders around the world.
