F01 – Learnings from Freight Transport Trends
Establishing efficient freight supply chains is a key policy change of successive Australian governments.
While there has been significant work undertaken on national strategies for land transport and ports in the past, more work needs to be done, taking a whole-of-supply chain perspective.
This research reviewed international transport trends with a focus on (1) modal trends in rail contestable supply chains internationally; and (2) the operation and performance of grain export supply chains to understand the loss of freight to road specifically.
The key objective is to understand if there are lessons to the industry that will encourage more freight on rail.
