Improving Efficiency of Head Hardening Process in flash butt welding and Integrated Heat Transfer Phase Transformation Model for Real Time Assessment
ACRI and its partners continue to conduct targeted applied research to develop new capabilities around the instrumentation and control of flash butt welding.
These activities provide an opportunity to develop new process tools for process control of existing production, but also to facilitate future uptake of new steel grades. Work undertaken under the auspices of HH/09 has established techniques and expertise to characterise the behavior of steel grades under FBW processing in regard to underlying phase transformations.
A two part project is proposed, the first to tackle a specific component of the FBW process, accelerated cooling of the head, and the second developing a heat transfer modelling tool that incorporates phase transformation kinetics to enable assessment of current and new steel grades.
