Smart Rail Profile and Tribo Characteristics Measurement System
The actual conditions at the wheel rail interface are uncertain in real train operations and their better understanding should benefit to the better friction management for a railway system. It leads to issue that rail owners are interested in continual management of their tribology and at best a once per day update would suffice.
The existing friction measurement equipment is commonly operated in a manual mode and it does not allow achieving the sufficient performance. In addition, the proposed system will benefit locomotive traction and train braking operations – or even manufacturers through the development of friction maps for heavy haul railway routes.
