WLC01 – Evaluation of LES User Behaviour Study
What was the issue?
Need to evaluate the impact of a level crossing enforcement system (LES) at a particular site, the Aviation Road level crossing in Laverton, Victoria with a focus on changes in the behaviour of crossing users – motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians.
What was done?
- Before and after study of observed behaviour.
- Analysis of collected data, classifying and scoring of transgressions at the crossing. Transgressions included queuing and vehicles entering when boom gates/warning lights are operating.
- Qualitative driving culture study using data from a survey and interviews of local workers, train commuters and law enforcement officers as well as crossing users.
