PF01B – Understanding the underlying causes of slips, trips and falls in rail station environments

Informing safer rail station environments through investigation of station designs and characteristics that may contribute to, or help to prevent, slip, trip and fall incidents.

The final stages examined “normal” and “high risk” user behaviour on trains and at stations to investigate the potential to increase safety compliance in these higher risk groups.

The key findings around 1) passengers rushing to board trains, 2) cognitive load of station navigation and 3) information dissemination impacts on risk taking behaviour are now under assessment for application to participant real world improvements to stations and for use in benchmarking.
